Lakefront Building & DesignDescription
Basswood Acres is a custom home nestled among towering pines in Northern Wisconsin. Built by Lakefront Building & Design in 2025, this 2,678-square-foot home (main level) was created as a forever home for a retiring couple — a place where thoughtful design, quality craftsmanship, and full accessibility come together without compromise. From the outset, every decision centered on one guiding principle: this couple should be able to live comfortably on one level for the rest of their lives. The result is a fully accessible home featuring zero-entry thresholds throughout, a curbless tile shower, and a walk-in tub — all integrated seamlessly into a design that feels intentional, not clinical. Accessibility is woven into the architecture rather than added as an afterthought.
The open-concept floor plan connects the great room, kitchen, and dining area into a single flowing space anchored by natural light and forest views. Granite countertops run throughout, complemented by custom cabinetry and hardwood oak flooring that includes a custom-designed foyer inlay. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms provide comfortable space for the homeowners and guests.
Lighting was treated as a design element in its own right. Custom cove lighting, valance lighting, and step lighting create layered warmth throughout the interior, while tray ceilings with paneling and integrated cove lighting add architectural depth and dimension to the main living areas. The attention to light continues outside, with exterior soffit lighting and illuminated timber details that showcase the home's character after dark.
The timber work is a defining feature of this home and a standout example of craftsmanship. Custom timber gable details on the exterior give Basswood Acres a striking Northwoods presence, while the timber-framed porch and deck on the rear of the home serve as the heart of outdoor living. These aren't decorative accents — they are fully custom timber structures designed and built to be both structural and beautiful, offering the homeowners a space to take in the peaceful pine-covered surroundings in every season.
A full unfinished basement provides extensive storage and future build-out potential, while the attached garage keeps daily life convenient and connected.
Basswood Acres represents the kind of building Lakefront Building & Design is known for in Northern Wisconsin — homes that are designed around how people actually want to live, built with materials and methods that will last, and finished with a level of detail that rewards a closer look. For this couple, that meant a home where accessibility, beauty, and craftsmanship aren't competing priorities — they're the same priority.
